The American Film Theatre Collection
The launch of the American Film Theatre Collection represents the UK home entertainment premiere of one of the most extraordinary film archives of the 20th Century. The brainchild of legendary producer Ely Landau, the series’ philosophy was to marry the excitement of live theatre with the accessibility and visual possibilities of film.
Featuring brilliant cinematography and towering performances from some of the greatest film directors and biggest stars of the period, these fourteen rarely seen masterpieces will build into one of the most collectable and prestigious DVD libraries ever produced. The collection records the collaborations of some of our greatest actors and directors including John Gielgud, Katharine Hepburn, Alan Bates, Laurence Olivier, Glenda Jackson, Peter Hall in masterpieces written by playwrights including Eugene O'Neill, Harold Pinter, Edward Albee, Anton Chekov.
All of the DVD’s include extensive extra material, most of which has never been seen before and was specially produced for the collection. Recently filmed in-depth interviews with stars, directors and producers are complemented by original theatrical trailers and posters, galleries of stills and extensive articles and essays about the film. Never before seen on either video or DVD in the UK, these films have been rediscovered, restored and re-mastered and are now ready to be enjoyed by a new generation of film and theatre lovers.
